Projects for today

So, the older kids played outside in the snow most of the day.  I gave them a "project" for school.   They were instructed to build an igloo.  First the attempted to scoop out snow from a mound and make an igloo cave, so to speak.  Next I instructed them to a block type igloo.  So, off they went and upstairs I went while the younger babes were still napping.

Ahhhh, it feels so good to accomplish a task for the day.  Don't you think?  Today I wanted to get some sewing done.  I have a number of projects cut and ready to sew, I just wasn't in the "mood" to do them.  Last week I had read a few other bloggers that were making camera straps for their cameras.  I thought, what a fabulous idea!  I could have a stylish, yet comfy strap on while I take pictures....so I did it!  I made my very own!!

YAY me, of course, I realize that it is very "girly" but the camera was a gift for ME, from my hubby.  I have material cut and ready to make him one too, if he complains about the flowery print.  It is much softer and nicer to wear now with the minky dot material on my neck.  Also it is completely removeable! 

On to the next project for today, making a camera wristlet case for my 11 yr old arrows new camera that she got for Christmas.  She is having so much fun taking pictures, but she needed something to keep it in. 

I think it is just her style, don't you?  She loves music, wants to play guitar and piano, wants to be a "rock star" so I thought the fabric was perfect for her. 

For the straps I used a ribbon.  It is lined and has a pocket on the outside/back as well.  It is so cute!  I think I may have to find someone else that needs a camera case, just so I can make another!  It was fun and it only took me about an hour to complete.

BTW, the igloo cave collapsed!!  So, I guess they learned that building with brick type stones is stronger than just scooping out dirt from a mound.  :)

Busy, Busy

Sorry, it's been a while! I've been busy! I had a friend over last week for a play date with the kids and the mommies got to scrapbook!! I haven't scrap booked in over 3 years! It felt so good to get some pages done. I wasn't being very creative, it was more about getting the pictures down on paper. 9 pages later I was a very happy mommy and inspired to do it more often. After realizing that my supplies are just not very accessible during the evenings when I could scrapbook it was time for a change. After about 6 1/2 hours on Thursday I got the job done. All my supplies are now in my loft area, which has now become the scrapper/sewing area. The 2 oldest arrows now have more room in their bedroom and it is more their own room, not mommy's storage room. They have a computer in their room now too which makes it GREAT for playing Webkinz again! We had taken a long break from playing webkinz, but they seem to be interested in it again. Here are a few pictures of my accomplishments last week.








Not only did I scrapbook 9 pages, but I made 2 sundresses, finished 1 Easter skirt, and 2 Easter dresses. Now I only have 1 Easter dress and 1 Easter skirt to go! Not so easy for the scrap booking, as I have many, many, many years to catch up on!

Anyway, as you can see, it was a busy week. Weekends are always fun with Daddy and friends. This weekend was no different! We had friends over on Saturday for games, movies and Easter Egg Dying! Our friends brought some egg dying kits over and the kids did about 4 dozen eggs! They had so much fun and I didn't get one picture! I don't know what I was thinking, other than we were having so much fun that we forgot.

Sunday was the Lord's day! While getting ready for church I was rushing around and hit my toes on a baby gate. I have walked by this gate so many times and never had a problem, but yesterday the Lord had a lesson for me to learn. Either watch where you are going or SLOW down! My toes were throbbing so badly I took 2 Motrin before we left for church, BTW, I taped them and put on a pair of flip flops. Hee Hee While at church I could see behind the tape that there was some blue discoloring. Then while waiting to go to lunch my son toddles over to me (without me seeing him coming) and he kicked my toes!! After another 2 ibuprofen we left for lunch. Upon returning home we took the tape off so we could see just what was going on under the tape. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So many shades of blue, purple, black and a touch of pink. I put my foot up and put ice on my toes for awhile. It did seem to help with the swelling, but the throbbing was not going away. I slept with my foot propped up on a pillow and tossed and turned all night long, feeling my pulse in my toes. When I woke up this morning I went about my normal routine with a slightly swollen toe and then it happened.....I HIT IT AGAIN!!!! This time I was in the school room and hit it on the steel leg of the desk! I really thought I was going to pass out from the pain! SO.....what to do now?

I am terrified of hitting it again, but there is nothing to do for a broken toe, just tape it, but I can't do that because the swelling gets worse when I tape it. I can't stand the pressure either. Ahh, what lesson did I miss Lord? How then should I glorify You in the midst of all this throbbing!? I am to slow down and enjoy the little things in life for right now. So, I will.......take a deep breath, exhale and now I will bask in the glory, beauty and knowledge of what a Sovereign, Loving God you are.

A Blessed Christmas

Well, the packages are all opened, mommy is going nuts with the mess everywhere, daddy is back to work, the kids are overwhelmed, our schedule is non existent and the new year is approaching. WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a wonderful Christmas. I did manage to stay focused on the joy and love of Christmas and not the rush of wrapping, baking and everything being perfect. On Christmas Eve the girls and I baked candy, dipped candy, wrapped a few last minute packages, and then everyone showered. We all dressed in our matching Christmas skirts and went to church for our Christmas Eve Candlelight service. It was beautiful. After church we go to my grandmothers (the kids great grandmothers) to have dinner and open presents. This year everyone bought 1 gift per child and then the adults did a "white elephant" game. It was so much fun! The kids loved everything they got and had to open every toy and the adults had just as much fun taking gifts from one another trying to find the perfect gift. It was alot of fun, even the kids got to help us out. The kids would go and take back a gift from someone, so we didn't have to get up. You know, our poor old aching bones, we needed help from the young ones. After opening presents we cleaned up the kitchen, ate some dessert and packed up the cars. It was time to get home to bed, for it would be an early morning. Mommy and Daddy were up very, very late, but it was worth every minute. The kids didn't wake up until 9. Mommy got breakfast started because everyone would be here at 10 to watch the kids open presents. (This is a tradition that my mom started with me. I was an only child, so everyone came to our house to eat and watch me open presents. Now we have continued the tradition.) The kids were so good, always so patient, they have never been ones to rush to open their gifts. They are grateful for every single one. So after all the food was baked, and the presents were open we were ready for a LONG NAP. That's just what God had in store for us too.....2 hours later, we woke up and went to a friends house to hang out and play some games. After we played a few new games we wanted to get home and put the kids down after a long day. Once we got in the car the kids made us very aware that they hadn't had anything to eat since about 11:30am, so they were "starving." Where would you go to eat on Christmas Day? What would possibly be open? Chinese? No, WAFFLE HOUSE!!!! Off we went to Waffle House, and we went with another family that was visiting at the same house. After feeding our starving children, we went to Pinnacle Shores to see the lights. A few houses went in together and synced their lights to music. It was really neat! Now I am hoping that next year blessed daddy will do it to our lights! hee hee Anyway, it was the perfect ending to our wonderful, loving, blessed, family, friends filled Christmas Day! I pray that you all had a wonderful and blessed Christmas too!

Christmas Jammies...

OK....I have had the Christmas jammies done for awhile now, but I finally got all the kids dressed in them and took their pictures. They turned out pretty cute. Little man would NOT sit still for anything. Big sis had to read him a story or point out pictures in a book to get him to sit still. Here's a show of the fun. Enjoy! I taught someone to sew!!!!

I have to share how proud I am of my dear friend! She came over for Bible study tonight and afterwards we got to talking about sewing. I was showing her my nightgowns that I recently made for the girls. (I now have 3 nightgowns for the three youngest arrows) She wanted to know more details, next thing you know she was sewing, I was talking and guiding her through it and she was making my little man's jammy bottoms!! They turned out so cute!!! If it wasn't 20 minutes after Midnight I would post a picture, but it will have to wait until morning.

Anyway, I just had to share!! It does my heart good to know that if I can teach my friend how to sew, I can teach my own girls how to sew. I want so much to pass down homemaking skills to my girls. I think that sewing is an important part of homemaking. Along with a list of others, but this is one that my grandmother passed down to me, and I am now passing it down to the next generation. How cool is that?

LOOK What I can Do!!!!!

I DID IT!!!! I finally finished a sewing project from beginning to end!!! My kids are so excited about their new Christmas jammies and so am I!! I have never been able to finish a project. I always start things for my girls and then run to my mammaw for help. My mammaw made so many of my clothes when I was a child, she made clothes for my barbie dolls, cabbage patch dolls, and she has even made things for my girls. I treasure the outfits that she has made for us....and she has even started showing my oldest arrow how to sew. I love looking back and watching the 2 of them at the machine, it reminds me of myself as a child, sitting at the feet of my mammaw at that age. So now, finally after all these years of teaching me, it finally paid off!!! I finally finished the cutest nightgown for my second oldest arrow. Here are some pictures.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five and Six.....

Yes, six of us on antibiotics for some reason or another. When it rains it pours! I have 2 kids that had bronchitis last Thursday and are finished with their medicine. Monday we added one child to the list of medicine, Tuesday we added 2 more kids and then today we added Mommy! So in the past 7 days we have had 4 bronchitis infections, 1 sinus infection and 1 bladder infection. (I will leave it to you to figure out who has what)I am ready for the sickies to be over....anyone else dealing with sickies? Maybe this means we are getting it out of the way before the holidays.

On a happier note, I have been inspired by a friend to start sewing again. I bought some patterns online, cute flannel material at Hancock's, now I just need to make a little time. The girls are very excited about their new jammies. I thought I would start with some cute Christmas jammies for everyone, including our blessed boy arrow. So, I guess I will be spending less time on the computer and more time with my homemakers-in-the-making. I love spending time with my kids, especially when I am passing down a skill that I learned from my grandmother. I think it is such a blessing to be able pass on to the next generation. It seems that homemaking is a dying art these days....maybe we can do our part to make it a comeback.
